On August 15, 2012 regulations on the Polish citizenship of April 2, 2009 came into force. They were published in the Official Gazette No 161 (Dz.U.2012.161).
A foreign citizen may be granted Polish citizenship at his/her request provided that he/she has been residing in Poland for at least 3 years on a basis of a permanent residence permit to live in the Republic of Poland, has a regular monthly income, has a legal title to a residential property and speaks Polish.
Granting Polish citizenship will not be dependent on submitting evidence of loss of or release from foreign citizenship.
Starting from August 15th, a Polish citizen loses his/her Polish citizenship as a result of an application submitted by that person and 30 days after receiving the consent of the President of the Republic of Poland to renounce Polish citizenship or within a shorter time period if the President decides so.
